Pilates

Pilates is a holistic exercise system designed to elongate, strengthen and restore the body to balance; so much more than just building a 'strong core' or 'perfect posture’. It is effective as it addresses underlying structural imbalances in the body which can create on-going pain and difficulty with movement.

Pilates is not just exercise, it is a way of life— it is whole body health—and at Alaska Brain and Spine, we don’t want to just teach you how to move; we want to teach you how to live better in your body. Through Pilates, it is our goal is to improve your quality of life through movement within a caring and non-competitive environment. Echoing much of the same concepts that form the basis of most orthopedic rehabilitation and therapy (proper alignment, correct muscle activation patterns, etc), Pilates can be used to successfully treat many common orthopedic conditions and injuries. It strengthens weak muscles and lengthens tight ones to create complete balance within the body— regardless of someone’s age or physical condition—and has been shown to be especially beneficial for back pain.
